The Kwara State Government under the State’s Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) will today (Monday) begin the disbursement of soft loans to transport workers in the State.
The gesture by His Excellency, Mall. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq was to cushion the effect of lockdown aimed at flattening the curve of transmission of COVID-19 in the state on transporters who have been seriously affected.
According to a statement from the Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Kwara State, Fafoluyi Olayinka M. Solace, those expected to benefit from the loans include motorcycle, tricycle and cab drivers who have been asked to stay at home as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The statement reads: “the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said that his administration is taking this measures to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the town service transporters whose survival depends on their daily turnovers and have since been stopped from working as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
“AbdulRazaq noted that the soft loans will be repaid in trickles after the COVID-19 crisis is over”, the statement said.
