The Kwara State Taskforce on Covid-19 has begun training for Journalists covering the outbreak of coronavirus in the state.
The training which is expected to begin today Saturday 18 April at the Banquet Hall, Kwara Hotel, Ilorin will engage Journalists from various media organizations in the State on their role in checking the spread of coronavirus.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and spokesperson of the Committee, Mall. Rafiu Ajakaye had earlier promised to organize workshop for Journalists in the State on the role expected of them.
According to the CPS, “training is coming up in the next few days for journalists. The Ministry of Health has just discussed that with me this morning. I await details before reaching out to the NUJ”.
Meanwhile, the State Chairman of NUJ, Mall. Umar Abdulwahab has commended the state government for organizing the training, which he described as timely. “I assure the state government of the commitment of Journalists in reporting Covid-19 as well as other public health issues”.
While appreciating the CPS for fulfilling his promise, the Council Chairman commended the Kwara State Taskforce on COVID -19 for every effort put in place toward curbing the spread of the virus in the State.
Speaking further, Mall Umar said that Journalists need to sensitize and inform the public that coronavirus spares no one, hence taking precautions is the best thing to do.
He however called on participants to see the training as opportunity to refresh and equip themselves on necessary information needed on COVID 19.
