Kwara NUJ assures COVID-19 CSOs of media support

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council has assured the COVID-19 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) National Emergency Intervention Group, Kwara State Chapter of collaboration in containing coronavirus pandemic.

The Chairman of the Council, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab made gave the assurance while playing host to members of the group during a courtesy visit at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Chairman, who was represented by the Council Secretary, Dcn. Omotayo Ayanda assured the group of the Council’s media coverage and reportage of its activities so as to succeed in the National Assignment.

“I must commend you for this assignment you have taken up towards addressing issues of COVID-19 that affect us as a people. I assure you that as progressive members of the fourth estate of the realm, we are always poised to support any initiative that is geared towards development.

“For the NUJ as a body we welcome and support the initiative as it will go a long way in reducing and helping the state in her drive towards curbing the spread of the virus.

“Be rest assured that we will partner with you in media publicity, advocacy and awareness to inform the public of your efforts that the Federal Government Intervention gets to the grassroots.

Earlier, the COVID-19 CSOs group, led by its State Coordinator, Hajia Nimat o. Labaika said that the group decided to pay the courtesy visit to the NUJ as a critical stakeholder in the fight against coronavirus.

The Coordinator, however, called for the support of the NUJ in propagating its programmes and objectives to the public.

According to her, the group represents the National CSOs working in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development, Federal Capital Development Administration and other Government Agencies.

“COVID-19 National CSOs has the mandate to engage with government and other groups to create awareness and provide social service support for monitoring Federal Government palliatives in the State during and after the entire intervention period and report directly to the National Headquarters”, she said.
