Sustained Peace in Wara Oja Community: IPCR, NOA on Advocacy Visit to Stakeholders …Emir lauds move, assures full support for peace initiatives

In pursuit of sustained peace in Kwara State, particularly in Wara Oja community, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the National Orientation Agency Kwara have embarked on an advocacy visit to stakeholders including DSS, NPF, NSCDC and His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin.

While receiving the team in his palace on Tuesday, the Emir of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari lauded government’s effort and intervention in ensuring a lasting peace and assured that mediation is also receiving adequate attention from the traditional institution and by all means, peace moves and initiative would be supported in every nook and cranny of the State and country at large in the interest of all and sundry.

In his remarks during the visit, the Director General IPCR, Prof Bakut T. Bakut commended the various stakeholders for their laudable efforts in time past in sustaining peace in Kwara and in solving the imbroglio in Wara Oja community.

He emphasized that for lasting peace, we need all hands to be on deck, take proactive measures and shun tribalism or religious sentiments.

Also speaking, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, State Director NOA Kwara emphasised the need to continually explore multiple amicable approaches to solving dispute so that parties involved will not feel cheated.

He therefore appealed that continuous proactive engagement be sustained to completely eliminate recurring disagreement.

In his comments, the Commissioner of Police, represented by DCP Rotimi Adelesi, commended the effort of IPCR/NOA in ensuring peace in Wara Oja, and confirmed that the command is making frantic efforts to broker lasting peace in every part of Kwara State.

He encouraged individuals to always oblige security personnel information that would lead to early intervention in potential crisis situation.

Commandant Ayinla Makinde, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp Kwara State Commandant also noted that the Command is on top of the situation by adopting mediation and other conflict resolution methods and called for sustained synergy between all stakeholders for the good of all, saying that conflict remains part of every society but we must always resolve amicably.
