Women Empowerment for Nation-building: GLOHWOC Commences Intensive Training for CBOs in Kwara

Convinced that women have critical roles to play in nation-building and needs to be properly engaged, the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation has on Friday, commenced an intensive training programme for Community Based Organizations working on Women Empowerment in Kwara.

The training which is sponsored by Action Aid Nigeria and Global Aid Canada is to prepare the CBOs to promote women’s right, participation in politics and leadership, economic & justice empowerment, tackle sexual violence and ensure women’s voices are being heard.

In the words of Mrs Christy Abayomi- Oluwole, the coordinator of the training and CEO of GLOHWOC, the organization ‘went through a rigourous process to select a total of twelve (12) CBOs from the three (3) senatorial districts in Kwara and they are to work on different thematic areas with women and other stakeholders, especially at the grassroots.

The GLOHWOC Director emphasised that the Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria Project is being executed in 6 States in Nigeria as well as FCT, and GLOHWOC being the lead NGO in Kwara is to provide technical and financial support and capacity building to selected CBOs.

Abayomi also noted that the training will help the CBOs perform optimally in giving women a voice especially at the grassroots.

Also speaking at the opening session of the training, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, the State Director, National Orientation Agency, Kwara urged the Coordinators of the CBOs and other participants to be focused and assimilate all technicalities regarding the project which will benefit them on the field.

The Kwara State Honourable Commissioner for Social Development and her Tertiary Education counterpart, Mrs Abosede Aremu and Hajia Saadatu Modibbo Kawu respectively advised the selected women to play their part well in the project abd ensure that women in Kwara are properly engaged on the thematic areas.

The Commissioners further pledged the continual support of the Kwara State government under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq whom they described as a man interested in the all-round development of women in Kwara.
